When you have a professional position which involves selling, you have skills that are transferable from industry to industry. The specific product is not usually the key for the salesperson to be successful, as long as the salesperson stays true to themselves and likes and believes in the product or service being sold.

To sell timeshare or vacation ownership, most successful salespeople probably should feel comfortable with the concept of being paid on a commission-basis more frequently than being offered a salary. The salesperson prepared to get paid by commissions usually knows how to balance their at-home finances so that the fluctuations in paychecks will not put their bills in jeopardy.

It doesn’t matter what you are selling, if you can;t keep the phone on, the lights on, pay for your car insurance, pay the mortgage or rent, you will feel stresses.

Another great benefit for mortgage and insurance salespeople who decide to sell timeshare or vacation ownership is that they know what it means to establish rapport with customers and to build relationships in a transaction that will lead to a generous amount of referrals from those who purchase with them. More referrals can mean higher income in any sales environment.

Also, some top-notch vacation ownership or timeshare companies may allow the salesperson to personally take care of and service their own referred clients and some even have plans in place to compensate the sales staff when the clients make additional purchases after the initial sale.

Ask questions of your prospective employer in the timeshare or vacation ownership field about how they will handle referrals, upgrades, and residual type of income transactions. Pick a company that will make the work you do to build great relationships with customers pay-off and pay repeatedly.
